Upadowna endeavors to bring like-minded folks in a celebration of the great outdoors. UpaDowna encourages people of all ages to get outdoors, in an effort cure their A.D.D. (Adventure Deficit Disorder).
UpaDowna started as a blog and quickly grew into a community, touting a Facebook group of over 1,000 members. UpaDowna is now an official non-profit initiative of the Pikes Peak Community Foundation.
With all the growth and a new direction, it became clear, UpaDowna had become more than just a blog. The content needed to be better structured and organized and we needed a more robust framework to build upon. We set forth to migrate the original Wordpress blog, we built, to Drupal. Drupal would allow for more content types and flexible layouts.
At the time, it became clear that mobile devices were being used more and more to access the UpaDowna site. So we made the decision to build a responsive site that would adapt to the varying screen sizes used to access the site. In July of 2011 we launched the new responsive UpaDowna site. Hooray, for us!
I'm priviledged enough to be a part of UpaDowna since the very beginning and currently sit on the advisory board.
By reaching out through community programs both educational and fun-filled, UpaDowna will show you the path into the hills by providing information on backpacking, hiking, camping, cycling, climbing, bouldering, wilderness survival, skiing, snowboarding, and beer!!!
